Context:<\/strong><\/p>\nExposure<\/em> is a volunteer organized photographic exhibition that forms part of the 2018 Capture Photography Festival. This student curated show marks the second participation in the festival, with a group exhibition, by the School for the Contemporary Arts. It joins past projects such as 2017\u2019s In Circulation,<\/em><\/a> and student curated installations in Capture\u2019s Canada Line Public Art Program. The exhibition was organized with the financial support of the Simon Fraser Student Society, and the logistical and advisory support of the School for the Contemporary Arts. Exposure<\/em> is the result of an open call within SFU\u2019s Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, and an ensuing collaborative curatorial process. It draws inspiration from the first-year campus project,<\/a> which encourages engagement with the university site as a site for artistic intervention.<\/span><\/p>\nCurated by Joni Cheung, Stephanie Gagne, and Phoebe Huang, Exposure<\/em> consists of 16 site specific projects located on the 2000 level of the SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts and\u00a0features the work of: David Biddle, Aidan Branch, Krystle Coughlin, Stephanie Gagne, Jana Ghimire, Elly Habibullah, Avery Hannig, Phoebe Huang, Nurzhan Kabdrakhman, Ruilan King, Gillian Lai, Tyler Pengelly, Ivan So, Rachelle Tjahyana, Kalvin Valko, Graeme Wahn, Rachel Warwick, and June Yeo..<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
Curatorial Statement:<\/strong><\/p>\nSimon Fraser University is a site of instruction, learning, and experimentation that allows its students to explore art outside of traditional contexts and places. Exposure<\/em> utilizes collaborative spaces for photographic interventions. This exhibition invites students of SFU and other local artists to challenge the architectural and educational perspectives of the Woodward\u2019s campus.
\n <\/p>\nDesign Brief:<\/strong><\/p>\nThe brief for the brochure detailed an uncommon format – 4 x 6 inches with the binding on the top edge – similar to a calendar, or the identification page of a passport. This allowed each artwork to encompass an entire spread, with the image on the top and the written description on the bottom page. Unlike the previous exhibit both the Poster and Brochure were designed to maintain a cohesive visual identity through the fractured use of the exhibition title overlaid with an image from Graeme Wahn’s Mental Pole,<\/em> which was part of the exhibit.
